Business case
Tighe & Bond wanted to provide their mid-career top female talent with mentorship that didn’t exist within the firm, predominantly from a soft skills perspective. They decided to engage a third party to provide that support given the relatively small number of females in leadership positions at their firm, as well as the time commitment for mentors.
Mentoring strategy
Tighe & Bond enrolled 12 women in Femme Palette's mentoring program, which focused mainly on developing leadership and soft skills, as well as time management, confidence, balancing career and parenthood, and management skills. The program began with an introductory workshop “How to Be a Good Mentee,” where details about the program, practical information, and tips on organizing sessions were shared with the mentees. Each mentee had an onboarding call with a Femme Palette Program Manager, during which individual career challenges were discussed and SMART goals were set. Based on these goals, the mentees were matched with the right mentors for a 6-month mentoring journey, with recommended meetings every two weeks. Participants had the opportunity to spend up to 12 hours with their mentor, who specialized in the desired area of expertise. During the program, the mentees' progress was tracked by Femme Palette's representative and shared with the participants' employer through regular reporting after 3 and 6 months.
Impact
Mentoring has helped grow the participants’ confidence. Mentees now feel prepared to set boundaries, are more effective at organization and time management, are building more successful teams through better communication and active listening, and have shifted their mindset of being the only female in the room to a positive rather than a negative.
Mentees reached their goals by 83% by the end of their journey.
What does the client say?
“Tighe & Bond implemented a program to provide mentoring to mid-career top female talent and partnered with Femme Palette on this initiative. The program was highly successful. Our mentees let us know that the program made them feel valued, helped identify areas for growth both personally and professionally, and gave them confidence to navigate their careers in a male dominated industry.
Consider piloting the program with a small group of individuals and getting their feedback before deciding whether to implement more broadly. It is a worthy investment given the challenges women have in finding mentors and the program offers an incredible experience to speak with an unbiased third party who can help navigate challenges. You will get your return on investment and it reflects well upon the employer to seek outside support to engage and retain top talent.”
