On April 15, 2025, Ekaterina joined a panel discussion hosted by Femme Palette, exploring the topic, "The Future of Tech: Key Skills and Trends." Below, she shares valuable insights, perspectives, and practical advice on some of the most pressing issues shaping today’s technology landscape.

What emerging technologies do you believe will have the most significant impact on the tech industry in the next 5 years?

Predicting future developments is challenging; nevertheless, it is likely there will be increased usage of existing technologies such as cloud computing, edge computing, and automation, along with AI/ML, sustainability, and cybersecurity.Additionally, there may be a heightened focus on quantum computing.

How are fields like Al, machine learning, and blockchain reshaping the skills required in tech?

The fields of AI/ML are indeed creating exciting new opportunities for innovation, efficiency and competitive advantage. These technologies have opportunities to transform industries, streamline processes and open up entirely new possibilities. However, they also bring a certain amount of hype – especially among startups that may use these buzzwords as a marketing tool rather than investing in actual technology.

As a result, workers in the tech industry often feel growing pressure to keep up by learning new skills in areas like AI/ML or blockchain, sometimes without a clear sense of immediate benefit of application. While some companies are embracing these technologies with clear strategic intent, others may take more time to adapt, requiring more training and reskilling efforts.

In this sense, the impact of emerging technologies like AI and blockchain may not be so much about reshaping the skills required in tech, but rather about adding complexity and new challenges to an already demanding field. Still, with the right support, this can be an opportunity for personal and professional development. Employers who proactively invest in ongoing education, empower their teams to stay ahead of the curve.

What technical and non-technical skills are becoming essential forthriving in the tech industry?

Technical skills:

  • Cloud computing and DevOps: Proficiency in cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, along with DevOps practices.
  • Cybersecurity: Understanding security principles, threat analysis, and mitigation strategies.
  • AI/ML: Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts.
  • Data analysis and interpretation: Extracting insights from data, identifying trends, and making informed decisions.
  • Non-Technical Skills:

  • Critical thinking and skepticism: Separating hype from reality and challenging the status quo.
  • Authenticity, honesty, and empathy: Being transparent about strengths and weaknesses and admitting when something isn’t working.
  • Open-mindedness: Embracing new ideas, perspectives, and approaches.
  • Opinionated yet humble: Forming strong opinions while remaining open to feedback and alternative viewpoints.
  • Storytelling: Clearly communicating your ideas, progress, and achievements.
  • As automation grows, which skills are least likely to be replaced bytechnology and why?

Automation isn't necessarily taking jobs away from people:

  • Allows us to focus on tasks requiring creativity, empathy, and critical thinking.
  • Takes over repetitive tasks, creating opportunities in monitoring and optimization roles.
  • Enhances productivity by minimizing mistakes and improving efficiency.
  • How can tech professionals ensure they stay relevant in an environment of constant technological advancement?

  • Focus on practicality: Avoid chasing trendy technologies that may not have long-term impact or are too niche. Assess what is hype and what is reality.
  • Consider the labor market: Evaluate the availability of skilled professionals for a particular technology, as it influences adoption and sustainability.
  • Prioritize overall well-being: Don’t sacrifice your physical and mental health to stay up to date with the latest technologies.
  • Set up a realistic goal and celebrate small achievements. Develop transferable skills, build network and go to different conferences. Soft skills are also very crucial.

Moving abroad for work? 5 cross-cultural communication mistakes to avoid

You move abroad. You are prepared, capable, and ready to make it work. And then something keeps feeling slightly off. The yes that does not actually mean yes. The meeting that felt fine until it did not. The colleague who seemed aligned but clearly was not. The moment you realize that everything you thought was professional, respectful, and clear does not translate the way you expected. Working across cultures is not just about adjusting to a new country. It is about realizing that your version of normal was never universal to begin with. This article breaks down the five moments where that hits hardest, and what to do about each one.

    Mentoring

Your best people are thinking about leaving. Mentoring is how you change that.

Your best people are not leaving because of the salary. They are leaving because they feel unseen, unsupported, and out of road. And the 2025 data makes that clearer than ever. This article breaks down why mentoring is the most effective answer to the retention crisis companies are quietly facing right now. From the numbers behind why people leave, to what good mentoring actually looks like in practice, to why women in particular are being underserved by most organisations, it is a practical, honest read for any HR or People leader who is tired of losing good people and ready to do something about it. The research is compelling. The cost of doing nothing is significant. And the solution is more straightforward than most companies think.

Can AI replace mentoring? What AI can do and what mentors still do better

AI is a powerful tool and we are not here to dismiss it. Use it to prepare, research, draft, and think out loud. But use it in your favor, as a starting point, not a substitute. Because there are things AI simply cannot do. It cannot know you. It cannot challenge you. It cannot sit with you in the harder moments and tell you the truth you needed to hear. It cannot grow with you over time and see the progress you cannot see yourself. That is what a mentor does. And no algorithm is coming for that anytime soon. Curious where AI ends and a mentor begins? The full article is waiting for you.
